WISCONSIN DOG BITE INJURY
 
DOES A DOG OWNER IN WISCONSIN HAVE TO HAVE NOTICE THAT THE DOG INJURED SOMEONE BEFORE?

Each state has its own rules peretaining to dogs, dog bite victims, and the types of damages and liability imposed for dog bites.  In Wisconsin, State Statute provides that if a dog injures a person, domestic animal, or property, the owner is liable for the full amount of damages caused by the dog when the owner does not have any notice of previous injuries to people, other animals, or property. 

WHAT IF A DOG HAS ALREADY BITTEN SOMEONE?

Generally,after notice of a previous injury to a person, other animal, or property, the owner of a dog in Wisconsin is liable for two times the full amount of damages for the injuries caused by the dog. 

WILL THE DOG OWNER BE FINED?

Penalities imposed for injuries caused by dogs include fines of $50 to $1,000.  These are in addition to the owner having to pay the full amount of damages.

DO DOGS IN WISCONSIN GET KILLED IF THEY BITE SOMEONE?

A Wisconsin court can order a dog to be killed if:
1. The dog caused serious injury to a person or domestic animal on two separate occasions off the owner's property, without reasonable cause AND
2.  The owner of the dog was notified or knew prior to the 2nd injury, that the dog caused the first injury.
