RUNNER ACCIDENTS WISCONSIN |
Wisconsin has a deep tradition when it comes to running.
Runners can be found on various gold courses/ cross country
courses, to trails, off road areas, sidewalks, country roads,
and tracks. Whether it's the Madison Marathon, Crazy legs
5k, or Monona 20k, runners across Wisconsin and in our State's
capital come out in force.
Unfortunately, similar to bike collisions, drivers often
daydream, text, or generally don't watch where they are going,
leading to a collision with a runner. Runners are
obviously most susceptible to injuries because they have no
protection. As a result they are often seriously injured
and may have head injuries,
spinal cord injuries, and broken bones.
When a runner is injured by a car, he or she should seek a
lawyer who is familiar with the Wisconsin pedestrian laws and
the effect an injury has upon an athlete. Although each
individual is important and should receive fair compensation for
his or her injury, athletes often suffer more because they are
unable to particpate in their usual activities. Just as a
person who makes $100,000 a year will suffer more in loss of
wages than someone who makes $30,000, a person who exercises six
times a week suffers more harm from an incapacitating injury
than a person who does not exercise at all.
Attorney Clayton Griessmeyer is a fellow athlete familiar with
Wisconsin pedestrian laws. He competes in running races
from cross country 8k's to 2 mile road races to marathons
throughout Wisconsin and California.
