Why You Should Not Post Pictures Of Illegal Activity on Facebook |
Do police, prosecutors and other agencies look at your facebook
page in an effort to build their case aginst you? Yes.
Not only will they search your name on the internet to find out
more information that may be favorable to their prosecution of
you, some police agencies in Wisconsin are actually using
facebook to set people up for underage drinking tickets.
According to the La Crosse Tribune, several UW La Crosse
students have recently been asked to come to the police station
to discuss pictures of themselves holding alcohol on Facebook.
The article and related interview of one of the alleged underage
drinkers suggests that the La Crosse police posed as a cute 19
year old girl to get students to friend them. Then the police
obtain pictures of the underage college students drinking and
has them come to the police station to discuss. According to the
story, four students have pled no contest to underage drinking
based on the Facebook photos obtained by the police. They had to
pay a fine of $227. This practice shows the importance of
consulting with a
Wisconsin criminal defense lawyer before
speaking with the police. As it turns out, the students admitted
to underage drinking when confronted with the photos.
