Do you need a helmet to ride a bicycle in Wisconsin?

Do Bikers have to wear helmets in Wisconsin? No. There is no law requiring people who ride bicycles, mopeds, or motorcycles to wear a helmet in Wisconsin. Some city ordinances require children to wear a helmet. Whether or not evidence that a person was wearing or was not wearing a helmet is admissible in court depends on the State Statute. There is a specific statute preventing lawyers from telling a jury about non use of a helmet for snowmobiles and atvs and a state statute that says a lawyer cannot argue a person was at fault for their injuries for not wearing a helmet. There is no specific statute for bicycles (yet) but based upon other similar laws it is reasonable to assume a judge would not allow the evidence in absent a very good reason/exception to similar laws.
